Welch, a Republican, spoke about tackling gaps in achievement rates among students, and preparing kids for an increasingly competitive job market. She also touted her experience as a high school teacher, administrator and education consultant.
“I’ve been accountable for growth of students in my classroom,” said Welch. “I’ve lead systemic reform as an administrator, so I’ve been in the trenches. I understand what we’re doing.” Welch also made stops in Billings and Helena on her state tour.
