I have worked in education for over 20 years, in the classroom, in administration and as a consultant. My mother served on our local school board when I was in high school. I was the first woman in the family to attend college earning a degree in actuarial science, the mathematics behind insurance and pensions. My Masters degree is in Educational Leadership.
I started my career in an accounting firm before becoming a high school math teacher. It was there that I started working in assessment in my classroom and connected with university projects. Discovering how to uncover student learning and use that information to inform instruction has always been a focus of my work.
As a teacher and school administrator I have worked in very diverse conditions. I have taught in a cafeteria, an auditorium, needed seven buckets to catch the water from a leaky roof. I have been a traveling teacher and shared my classroom with another teacher. I have worked in schools that send over 95% of their students to college. I have worked on a Montana Reservation to improve graduation rates. All of these experiences help me to understand the diversity of situations in our communities and our schools.
I have a firm commitment to excellence in public schools and believe that I could make a positive contribution to the schools inMontana. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the administrators, boards, teachers, students and communities across the state. I welcome the opportunity to discuss the needs of your community and your schools.
